Scripps Ranch began when newspaper magnate E.W. Scripps purchased 2,100 acres in 1890
to build a home called Miramar, named after Archduke Maximilian's castle in Trieste, Italy. Scripps planted many of the trees, including citrus, pine, and eucalyptus, that still stand today and make Scripps Ranch so beautiful.

Local Lifestyle

Like most of southern California, the weather in Scripps Ranch is perfect for spending time outside. The average high temperature is a balmy 70º F, the average low is a moderate 54º F and the average annual rainfall is 11.16 inches. Locals take advantage of the weather by getting out in the plentiful parks and green spaces. Scripps Ranch is a very desirable, quiet community known for its abundance of eucalyptus trees, interesting architecture, city living, low crime, thriving businesses, and fantastic schools.

Scripps Ranch offers plenty of great restaurants and bars serving a variety of cuisines to please any palette. 
 
Easily one of the best restaurants in Scripps Ranch is Yanni’s Bar and Grill. Voted best Greek restaurant in 2019, this staple of the community has been in business for almost 20 years and is well-known locally for its great food and friendly service.
 
Scripps Ranch has two neighborhood bakeries where you can start your day off with a fresh treat. The French Oven, run by a fifth-generation French baker, offers a broad selection of breakfast pastries in addition to specialty cakes and tarts and an exceptional assortment of bread. The Nutmeg Bakery and Cafe prides itself on its local, organic, and sustainable offerings and is open for both breakfast and a light and healthy selection of lunch items. 
 
Be ready to be transported from California to little Italy the moment you step through the door at Filippi’s Pizza Grotto — the ambiance is excellent and the food is a real treat. It’s perfect for a date night or family outing. 

Things to Do

One of the best outdoor areas near Scripps Ranch is Miramar Reservoir, a welcoming green space with lots of different water activities including kayaking, canoeing, boating, fishing, and water tubing. 
 
Lakeview Park is a wonderful little park with a paved walking path surrounding the lake, making it a great place to go for a jog, walk the dog or take your kids out for a play date. Scripps Ranch has a host of other wonderful neighborhood parks including Spring Canyon Park, Hendrix Pond, Miramar Overlook Park, and Hoyt Park. Make sure you check them all out and find your favorite peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. 
 
Founded in 1978, Scripps Ranch Theater is a local theater company that puts on works by local playwrights and features local artists. It’s a great place to enjoy artistic works that appeal to audiences of all ages. Scripps Ranch Community Center has a slate of interesting classes for community members, including a children’s cinematography class and different fitness classes. The center also plays host to fun family events like summer movies. 
 
Where else but in Scripps Ranch will you find a Welcome Club? The club is composed of local community members, who host get-togethers and activities from salad suppers to socials. They also play host to various interest groups who enjoy walking through local parks, visiting interesting locales, or discussing the latest book release.
